History

According to the earliest historical records, Sanchong is the place where the Pinnonouan of Plains Aborigines hunted, fished and settled during the period of Zheng Kingdom, Ming Dynasty; for the earliest development, the first was Xinzhuang’s Touchongpu (Hoklo people said the flat and undeveloped land as “Pu”), subsequently the settlements exploited down the river was called Erchongpu (now the area of Dingkan region), and Sanchongpu was the last section of new land development. So, the name of Sanchong shows the pioneering history of our ancestors.
Now, the whole territory of Sanchong was most developed during the period of Emperor Qianlong, Qing Dynasty for more than 10 years; for example, in 1745, there were surnamed Lin, Ye, Cai, and Lee, etc. from Tong-An, Quanzhou reclaiming such places as now Dayu, Dingtu, Doumentou, Wuguwang, Zhongzhuang, Houpu and Zhuweizi. Till 1748, a surnamed Lin squatter reclaimed Guojun, Tianxinzi, Dazhuwei, and Cailiao etc. places. In 1750, surnamed Cai, Lin, and Ye households reclaimed Liuzhang, Sanzhang, Houzhuwei and Xiazhuwei etc. In addition, a surnamed Chen squatter from Anxi, Zhangzhou reclaimed the area of Zhuweizi in Houde Village in 1745 too. As for the Xiwei area at northeastern Sanchong, due to the land formed late, is reclaimed later.
